Abstract
Background: Drug - drug interaction is a common problem in clinical practice, especially in comorbidity and multiple symptoms such as stroke, the combination of drugs in treatment is inevitable. The simultaneous use of multiple drugs increases the risk of drug interactions. Objectives: (1) To analyze clinically significant drug interactions occurring in stroke patients at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital. (2) To find out factors related to clinically significant drug interactions in stroke patients. Materials and methods: Cross - sectional descriptive study method; 209 stroke inpatients treated at the Department of Cardiology, Department of General Internal Medicine - Endocrinology and Intensive Care Unit, data were retrospectively collected from archived medical records at the General Planning Department of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2022. Results and Conclusions: Identified 31 clinically significant drug interaction pairs and developed management guidelines for each drug interaction pair. The rate of clinically significant drug interactions in medical records was 72.2% with 346 cases out of 209 medical records. The average number of clinically significant drug interactions per medical record was 1.7 ± 1.5. There was a relationship between the type of stroke, the number of risk factors, the number of drugs used in the patient with the possibility of clinically significant drug interactions (p < 0.05).Published | 2024-09-25 | |
