Abstract
Objective:This study aimed to find the pros and consof the traditional method compared to the improved method for bowel preparation by using Picoprep + Bisacodyl, PEG 2 L, and PEG 3 L in the procedure and assess tolerance and adherence.
Materials and methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study, from 1/2022 - 12/2022, divided into 3 groups, traditional PEG, picoprep + Bisacodyl, and PEG 3 L (improved PEG). Improvements in mucosal visibility and overall quality of the examination were compared.
Results: The results show that patients using Picoprep + Bisacodyl and improved PEG displayed greater improvement compared to the traditional PEG group. There were no significant differences between patients using Picoprep + Bisacodyl vs improved PEG. The tolerance of patients using picoprep was highest.
Conclusion: Proper bowel preparation is key for the success of colonoscopy. Endoscopic center should consider appropriate medication for the patient based on their age, health, and patient requirements. Improving the use of laxatives on the same day as the day of the procedure is still highly effective and well tolerated. A laxative that smells good yet effective should also be considered if the patient requires.
