Abstract
Background: RV (Right ventricular) strain indices in Speckle Tracking echocardiography (STE) can evaluate subclinical RV dysfunction and a mismatch of interventricular function can predict events in patients with acute heart failure (AHF) with pulmonary edema (PE).
Objective: To assess some RV systolic function parameters, IVSLD (Interventricular Longitudinal Strain Difference) and their correlations with prognostic values for mortality and rehospitalization through right ventricular strain and ISLSD indices in patients AHF with PE.
Materials and Methods: A short-term, cross-sectional study was conducted in 63 patients AHF with PE. All patients underwent bedside echocardiography and RV strain indices was assessed by STE. Follow-up of mortality and readmission events in the hospital and 30 days after discharge.
Results: RV strain indices as RV-FWLS, RV-GLS and routine RV echocardiography indices TAPSE, RV FAC, RV S’ (TDI) were all lower in patient group compared with the control group with statistical significance, p<0.0001. There was a statistically significant correlation between RVFWLS, RVGLS, with LV-GLS, TAPSE (p < 0.05) for the group with events occurring after 30 days. IVLSD index decreased significantly (p<0.05) in the group of patients with cardiovascular events.
Conclusion: RV strain indices, ISLSD index were reduced in patients with acute heart failure with pulmonary edema and were associated with events during short-term follow-up.
