Abstract
Objectives: To evaluate the clinical outcomes, quality of life (QoL), and factors associated with postoperative QoL in patients undergoing laparoscopic repair for bilateral inguinal hernia using the Carolinas Comfort Scale (CCS). Methods: A prospective descriptive study was conducted on 34 patients aged 16 years and older diagnosed with bilateral inguinal hernia who underwent laparoscopic artificial mesh repair at Hue University Hospital and Hue Central Hospital between June 2023 and December 2025. The Carolinas Comfort Scale (CCS) was utilized to assess the therapeutic outcomes and the impact of the surgical intervention on the patients’ postoperative quality of life. Results: The mean age of the cohort was 68.5 ± 12.4 years (range: 45 - 85 years). At 1-month post-surgery, the mean total CCS score was 1.7 ± 3.1 (range: 0 - 9); the mean sub-scores for mesh sensation, pain, and movement limitation were 0.7 ± 1.5, 0.9 ± 2.2, and 0.2 ± 0.8, respectively. At 3 months, the mean total CCS score significantly decreased to 0.7 ± 1.6 (range: 0 - 8), with corresponding sub-scores dropping to 0.3 ± 0.7 for mesh sensation, 0.4 ± 1.1 for pain, and 0.1 ± 0.6 for movement limitation. The recurrence rate was 0%| Published | 2026-06-18 | |
