Abstract
Background: Surgery remains the primary treatment modality for gastrointestinal diseases. However, preoperative anxiety is a common psychological response that may adversely affect treatment outcomes and postoperative recovery. Early identification and assessment of anxiety are therefore important components of perioperative nursing care. Objectives: To describe the prevalence of preoperative anxiety and identify associated factors among patients undergoing gastrointestinal surgery at Da Nang Oncology Hospital. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study with analytical components was conducted on 140 patients indicated for gastrointestinal surgery at Da Nang Oncology Hospital from October 2025 to January 2026. In the regression model, the dependent variable was preoperative anxiety status, defined based on the HADS-A score and categorized into two groups: anxiety (HADS-A ≥ 8) and no anxiety (HADS-A < 8). Associated factors were identified using multivariable logistic regression analysis.
