Abstract

Background: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a common condition in aging men. Medical therapy is recommended for patients with moderate to severe lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). However, various medical treatment strategies for BPH can negatively impact patients’ sexual function. Objectives: To investigate the prevalence and severity of erectile dysfunction (ED) and ejaculatory dysfunction (EjD) in BPH patients before and after treatment. Materials and Methods: A prospective study was conducted on 80 patients with BPH receiving medical therapy at the urology clinic of Hue University Hospital. Results: The mean age of patients was 63.0 ± 5.9 years. The severity of ED and EjD was positively correlated with the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) and negatively correlated with the maximum urinary flow rate (Qmax). The incidence of ED and EjD in the combination therapy group (Alfuzosin và Dutasteride) was significantly higher compared to the Alfuzosin monotherapy group.
