Abstract
Wind-cold-dampness neck and shoulder pain is a condition of pain and limited movement of the neck and shoulders due to degeneration of the cervical spine. This is a fairly common disease in the elderly, affecting quality of life. Multimodal treatment combination brings synergistic effect and reduces side effects of monotherapy, in which thread-embedding acupuncture and nutrition exercise are proven effective methods in treating neck and shoulder pain. Objectives: To investigate some clinical and paraclinical characteristics of patients with wind-cold-dampness neck and shoulder pain and evaluate the effectiveness of post thread-embedding acupuncture and nutrition exercise treatment. Subjects: including 55 patients who met the criteria for diagnosis of wind-cold-dampness neck and shoulder pain at the Department of Traditional Medicine, Binh Tan District Hospital. Methods: clinical intervention, comparison before and after treatment, no control group. Results: Before treatment, more than 60% of subjects were in serve pain; 80% limited range of motion in the neck and more than 50% affected many activities of daily living; most had cervical spondylosis on X-ray. After the intervention, the rate of pain-free was 1.8% and mild pain was 67.3%; The improvement in neck mobility was statistically significant (p < 0.05); The score of assessment of the level of impact on living function (NPQ) also decreased significantly (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Combining thread-embedding acupuncture and nutrition exercise is effective in treating Wind-cold-dampness neck and shoulder pain.Published | 2024-09-25 | |
