Abstract

Background: Anastomotic leakage is one of the most common complications following sphincter-preserving rectal resection. Managing this complication remains a major challenge for colorectal surgeons. Endoscopic Vacuum therapy (EVT) has recently emerged as an effective minimally invasive approach and has been increasingly applied worldwide. However, in Vietnam, the technique has not yet been widely adopted. Case Report: We report a case of anastomotic leakage in a patient with upper rectal cancer following laparoscopic tumor-specific mesorectal excision (TSME), successfully treated using the EVT technique. Conclusion: EVT demonstrates high effectiveness in the treatment of rectal anastomotic leakage. While this technique is now widely applied globally, it is still rarely implemented in Vietnam
