Abstract
Background: The quality of medicinal plants is a critical factor affecting the efficacy and safety of traditional medicine. Although Lam Dong Province has excellent potential for MP resources, the actual practices of cultivation and harvesting still face many limitations. Objectives: Assessment of Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices regarding quality assurance in the cultivation and harvesting of medicinal plants according to GACPWHO standards among MP growers in Lam Dong province and investigation of related factors. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 385 MP farmers at 87 licensed facilities in Lam Dong. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews using a structured questionnaire.
Results: The proportions of participants with ‘good/adequate’ levels of knowledge, attitude, and practice were 46.0%, 94.8%, and 74.3%, respectively. Adequate knowledge was associated with factors such as being of Kinh ethnicity, having a university-level education or higher, and participation in GACP-WHO training programs (p < 0.05). A positive attitude was associated with the involvement in GACP-WHO training and adequate knowledge (p < 0.05). Adequate practice was related to educational level and participation in GACP-WHO training (p < 0.05).”
Conclusion: Medicinal plant growers in Lam Dong Province demonstrated relatively good knowledge in specific aspects of GACP-WHO standards, but their overall knowledge remained low. Their attitudes toward quality assurance were generally positive; however, their practical application of these standards was still limited. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen training on GACP-WHO standards, particularly targeting individuals with lower educational levels to improve their knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding medicinal plant quality assurance.
