Abstract
Background: Cancer is a global health problem with a high mortality rate, causing many serious consequences and becomes an economic burden for families and society. Therefore, quality of life plays an important role in measuring the impact of cancers on health.
Materials and method: The cross-sectional study on 291 cancer patients receiving treatment at the Oncology Department, Gialai General Hospital aimed to assess the quality of life among cancer patients and to identify associated factors. The EORTC QLQ-C30 toolkit of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer was used to assess the quality of life among cancer patients.
Results: The mean score of overall quality of life was 45.6 (SD = 21.3). The proportion of patients with good quality of life was 25.8%. Associated factors of quality of life by the multivariable logistic regression model were: no religion (OR = 4.06; 95% CI: 1.05 - 15.68), no self-pay for treatment (OR = 11.17; 95% CI: 2.35 - 52.96), lung cancer (OR = 11.16; 95% CI: 1.70 - 73.50) and liver cancer (OR = 7.78; 95% CI: 1.61 - 37.61), metastasis (OR = 5.38; 95% CI: 1.40 - 20.78), co-morbidities (OR = 8.56; 95% CI: 2.47 - 29.74), nonresponse to treatment (OR = 7.18; 95% CI: 1.31 - 39.52).
Conclusion: The mean score of overall quality of life is low. Physical and emotional support measures are needed to improve the quality of life among cancer patients treated at the hospital.
