Abstract
Background: In the current era, advancements in technology and robotics are expected to significantly influence surgical trends. Therefore, further research on stapling techniques in laparoscopic colectomy remains essential.
Materials and Methods: This descriptive, prospective study included all patients who underwent laparoscopic colectomy with stapled anastomosis for colon cancer at Hue Central Hospital and Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital between January 2022 and February 2023.
Results: A total of 65 patients were included, with a mean age of 60.0 ± 13.2 years (range: 28 - 87); 62.5% were male and 37.5% female. The surgical procedures performed were right hemicolectomy in 28 cases (43.1%), sigmoidectomy in 23 cases (35.4%), left hemicolectomy in 13 cases (20.0%), and transverse colectomy in 1 case (1.5%). Intracorporeal anastomosis was performed in 28 patients (43.1%), and extracorporeal anastomosis in 37 patients (56.9%). Anastomotic types included side-to-side (63.1%), end-to-end (30.8%), and end-to-side (6.2%). Postoperative complications included six cases of surgical site infection and one case of intestinal obstruction. According to the Clavien-Dindo classification, 9.2% were grade I and 1.5% were grade II.
Conclusion: Stapled anastomosis in laparoscopic colectomy is a safe and feasible technique.
