Abstract
Background: Midline incisional hernia is one of the complications that occur after abdominal surgery, affecting the quality of life of patients. Objectives: To describe the clinical characteristics and assess the outcomes of the eTEP-RS approach for midline abdominal incisional hernias Materials and methods: A prospective and retrospective study involving 31 patients with midline incisional hernia treated with eTEP-RS approach from March 2023 to March 2026 at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital and Hue Central Hospital. Results: The mean follow-up period was 17.58 ± 11.01 months. The mean age of the group study was 118 TẠP CHÍ Y DƯỢC HUẾ - HUE JOURNAL OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY ISSN 3030-4318; eISSN: 3030-4326 65.84 ± 11.04 years, with females accounting for 61.30%, and 64.52% of patients classified as ASA II. The most common indication for prior surgery was malignancy (41.94%), and the primary reason for admission was the presence of a bulge. The most frequent hernia location was M3 (70.97%). The mean Body Mass Index (BMI) was 23.01 ± 3.34 kg/m2. All hernia orifice widths were < 10 cm, and the mean mesh area was 299.03 ± 68.14 cm2. The mean operative time was 176.13 ± 57.82 minutes, showing a positive correlation between the hernia orifice area and the number of trocars used. At discharge, the mean Visual Analog Scale (VAS) pain score was 1.39 ± 0.50. The mean length of hospital stay was 3.26 ± 0.82 days. No drainage was required in any cases. Postoperative complications included two cases of seroma, with no reported recurrences. Conclusion: The eTEP-RS technique is an effective approach for repairing midline incisional hernias.| Published | 2026-06-18 | |
